where we came from

FluxWorks started in 2021, out of doctoral research into magnetic gearing and what NASA had already proven was possible. Mechanical gearing built the industrial world and still runs most of it. We are not here to replace that craft. We are here to add to it: a way to move torque that fails differently, wears differently, and asks less of the people who maintain it.

Preston Abadie

Research Engineer

Preston earned his doctorate at Texas Tech in battery system control and analysis, and now owns the research direction for our gears and actuators. He cooks seriously enough that the lab has opinions about it.

Thomas Borum

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Thomas came to FluxWorks with six years of mechanical engineering behind him, much of it in well control equipment, where the cost of a part failing is not theoretical.

Mary Cain

Sales and Marketing Coordinator

Mary has run sales, accounting, onboarding and most things adjacent, and keeps both people and processes moving in the right direction. She trains for fitness competitions, so the bar for busy is set high around here.

Rick Collins

Director of Finance

Rick spent 20 years as a controller before joining FluxWorks, and holds an MBA. He keeps the numbers honest, which is convenient for a company whose second core value is quantify decisions, measure impact.

Gennesis Cuevas

Mechanical Design Engineer

Gennesis designs hardware across prototyping and manufacturing, with a mechanical engineering degree from UT Dallas. She has picked the bass back up, which the shop has not yet voted on.

Chris Gomez

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Chris has 15 years in product development and reaches for a mathematical model before he reaches for an opinion. That instinct is most of why our designs hold up.

Alex Lee

Chief Strategy Officer

Alex brings more than 25 years across engineering and commercial roles, and spends most of his time on where FluxWorks goes next and who we go there with. He is the resident authority on golf and cigars.

Kyle Maier

Director of Operations

Kyle has 13 years in engineering and manufacturing and runs how the work actually gets done day to day. He is a father of two, which is excellent preparation for operations.

Micah Oevermann

Mechatronics Engineer

Micah earned his doctorate in robotics at Texas A&M, out of the Robotics Automation Design lab, and is equally at home debugging a control loop or building the rig to test it. He is learning to sail, the first system he cannot debug.

Bryton Praslicka

Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Bryton started FluxWorks in 2021 to find out what magnetic gears could do outside a lab, and holds eight pending patents. Away from the shop he drums and climbs.

Hayden Sipple

Control Systems Engineer

Hayden holds a master's in electrical engineering and works on the control side of making magnetic motion behave. He spends his time off in national parks, as far from a control loop as he can get.

Brad Strobel

Mechanical Engineer

Brad is a Texas A&M graduate currently pursuing his master’s in mechanical engineering while working on our hardware. He is proof the two things can be done at once, though he would not recommend it.
